- STATEMENT OF WORK FOR MOUSE SMOKING MACHINE SYSTEM BRAND NAME OR EQUAL. MEET OR EXCEED. FOB DESTINATION. Lowest Price Technically Acceptable. 1. SCHEDULE OF SUPPLIES: (description of supplies) Part # DescriptionEst. Qty. Unit 1MOUSE SMOKING MACHINE SYSTEM1Each 2 ON SITE INSTALLATION AND TRAINING INSTALLATION AND TRAINING EXPENSES 1Each 2. GENERAL INFORMATION: The mouse smoking machine will be used to perform an in vivo cigarette smoke inhalation study using a mouse model to induce emphysema. The Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center Research Service has a requirement to purchase the mouse smoking machine in support of Dr. Toru Nyunoya's VA approved merit review research project titled, "Role of DNA Repair in COPD". 3. DESCRIPTION/SPECIFICATIONS: The mouse smoking machine system is a system for main-stream smoke exposure to up to 40 mice (20 per whole body chamber ). The system includes a computer controlled base unit, two pump modules, desktop computer with Windows 7, two single cigarette smoking kits, two filter chambers (Gracimetric measurement), two whole body exposure chambers (5L) suitable for 20 mice per each, two particulate matter transducer kits which will be used in support of Dr. Nyunoya's VA approved COPD research. It will enable Dr. Nyunoya and his research team to perform an in vivo cigarette smoke inhalation study using a mouse model to induce emphysema. Smoking systems generally have a smoking machine, some method to mix and dilute the smoke and an exposure unit. A smoking machine's applications usually include use with animal and cell culture exposure systems, serial animal exposure chambers and nose-only chambers. The C&A (Certification and Accreditation) requirements do not apply. A Security Accreditation Package is not required for this procurement. As no personal patient data will be stored on any part of this system, no requirement for protection of VA (Veteran's Affairs) data is necessary. 4. DEFINITIONS/ACRONYMS: CO - Contracting Officer. The Federal employee who is warranted by the Government to enter into contracts on behalf of the Government and is the only person authorized to make changes to those contracts. COR - Contracting Officer's Representative. Individual designated by the CO to place orders, furnish technical guidance, advice, certify invoices, and provide general supervision of the work performed under the executed contract. COPD - Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Tobacco smoking is usually the most common cause of COPD. Emphysema - An inflammatory response in the lungs resulting in narrowing of the small airways and breakdown of lung tissue. 5. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: Capability to accommodate up to 40 mice in the smoking system (two chambers OK). Equipped with a computer system to monitor and maintain a steady total particulate matter of cigarette smoke during the exposure time. Capability to perform in vitro experiments as well. A compact design of the smoking system to fit the size in a fume hood (15cm H x 22cm D x 41cm W). Micro-processor, servo-controlled pumps can be programmed to produce any desired flow pattern, called a profile. Programmable, time-varying flow profiles can be synchronized with automation of devices; such as valves, aerosol generation devices or a cigarette smoking robot, and can be instantaneously changed throughout and experiment. The system is fully managed using Windows-based software, flexiWare 6.1, which permits real-time monitoring, visualization and recording of data. All data is recorded with at time sampled log, and many be exported to a variety of formats including Microsoft Excel. The smoking chamber has low internal volumes (up to 5L) to reduce unintentional dilution of precious compounds and permits high concentrations to be reached quickly. 6. REQUESTED DELIVERY: Thirty (30) days after receipt of award of contract. Deliver to: Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center 1501 San Pedro SE Bldg 10, room 231 Albuquerque, NM 87108 7. DELIVERY HOURS: The RGMVAMC receives deliveries Monday through Friday (excluding federal holidays) between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (MST). 8. TRAINING: Hands on Training and Installation of the equipment is required. 9. WARRANTY: Standard one year warranty and support on new equipment. END STATEMENT OF WORK
