Description
Area Map for Abes Animals and Cherry Pit It is the objective of this contract to obtain high quality services to ensure adequate fuel reduction of the hazardous fuels generated through logging activities (Abes Animals 54, Cherry Pit 6, 7, 20, 21, & 22) and to achieve site preparation of regeneration units for planting (Abes Animals 39, 53, & 55;Cherry Pit 19, &24). Abes Animals 54, Cherry Pit 6, 7, 20, 21, & 22 were harvested with a commercial thinning silvicultural prescription. Areas to be treated in commercial thinnings are machine corridors identified by the Forest Service treating 25% of the area of each unit. The remaining units previously mentioned are regeneration units and were treated with a Seed Tree or High Retention Shelterwood silvicultural prescriptions. The resulting fuels generated from harvest activities will be treated to the specifications of the contract within the boundaries of each harvest unit. The Contractor shall perform this work in compliance with all terms, specifications, and provisions of this Contract. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies (except those designated as Government-furnished), and incidentals necessary to perform fuel reduction services on the designated areas. Fuel loading may be reduced either through the removal of the material from the sites for utilization or through the creation of machine piles on-site, which would then be treated by the Forest Service to complete fuel reduction. The Forest Service prefers to have as much material as possible removed from the site. (1) Item 1: Abe's Animals 39, 53, 54, & 55 The project consists of reducing fuels generated through harvest activities on Regeneration Units 39, 53, & 55 as well as Commercial Thinning Unit 54 of the Abes Animals Timber Sale. The project area is on the Palouse Ranger District of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. All of the units are located on the same forest road. Project site is located on forest road 3321 North and East of the community of Bovill. Drive North from Bovill on state highway 3 for 3.5 miles and turn left onto Forest Road (FR) 377. Drive West on FR 377 for 1 mile and turn left onto FR 3321. FR 3321 is a gated road and is locked year round, a key will need to be checked out in order to gain access by vehicle to the work site. Drive south and west on FR 3321 for 4.6 miles to the east edge of unit 39 this unit lies on the south and north side of the road. Continue traveling west on FR 3321 for another 0.75 miles to a junction with FR3321 and FR3322. At this junction keep right onto native surfaced road FR3322 (note this road is difficult to travel on when road conditions are wet). Travel 1.0 miles from the junction to the east edge of unit 53 which lies on the south of the road. Continue west on FR3322 for 0.25 miles to the east edge of unit 54 on the north side of the road. Continue west for another 0.17 miles to east edge of unit 55 on the south side of the road. (2) Item 2: Cherry Pit 3 Regen & 5 Commercial Thinning: The project consists of reducing fuels generated through harvest activities on Regeneration Units 19, & 24 as well as Commercial Thinning Units 6, 7, 20, 21, & 22 of the Cherry Pit Timber Sale. Continue past the first gate (going north) on the frontage road to the second gate, this gives access to Cherry Pit Unit 19. For units 6, 7, 21, 22, & 24 continue past the frontage road on State Highway 3/8 for 1 mile then turn right onto FR 1444. After turning off of the highway keep right within the first 0.1 mile and travel 0.2 miles to where the road Y's and keep to the right.
