- Description
- The National Science Foundation (NSF) intends procure exhibit booth space on August 3 - 14, 2015 at the Honolulu Convention Center in Oahu, HI. In August 2015, astronomers from all around the globe will gather for two weeks at the IAU General Assembly at the Honolulu Convention Center, Oahu, Hawaii, to discuss and evaluate their most recent discoveries and observations, to make decisions on fundamental issues facing astronomy, and to organize international cooperation. At the same time, General Assembly participants will have an opportunity to experience the wide range of astronomical activities now taking place in the USA and which include new projects, facilities, and institutes. At the General Assembly, held every three years, the world's astronomers come together to advance the astronomical sciences through international collaboration. Participants at the General Assembly in Honolulu will address key topics in contemporary astronomy and assess the latest scientific progress in a number of specialized areas. With six symposia extending over several days, 22 multi-session focus meetings, nine IAU Division meetings, dozens of IAU Commission meetings, and the first-ever daily general poster sessions, the XXIX General Assembly's scientific program will be the broadest in the union's history. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has a membership consisting of professional astronomers from all over the world, at the Ph.D. level and beyond, who are active in professional research and education in astronomy. Astronomers in the United States frequently participate in international collaborations, and the IAU meeting is a key opportunity to highlight the research U.S. astronomer's conduct. As the primary funder of ground-based astronomical research in the United States, the NSF will host an exhibition pavilion at the IAU that will highlight the many ways that it funds research in astronomy and astrophysics, as well as how it promotes astronomical education. This includes its partnerships with other federal agencies and international groups. The intent is to educate professional astronomers and students about the opportunities provided by the NSF, and encourage the development of increased interest in seeking funding through the NSF. The proposed contract action is for services for which the Government intends to sponsor with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b). This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. This synopsis is for informational purposes only.
