Description
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), US Meat Animal Research Center, Clay Center, NE, intends to negotiate on a sole source basis for Purchase of supplies for USMARC's Omnilog system from Biolog in Hayward, California. The Biolog Generation III (GEN III) OmniLogTM Combo Plus Microbial Identification and Phenotype Microarray (PM) System is designed to identify Gram negative and Gram positive aerobic bacterial species using the OmniLog instrument. Biolog, Inc. is the Sole manufacturer of this product and associated proprietary consumable items. Consumable items include the MicroPlates, Inoculating Fluids, redox dye compounds for GenIII. PM and Inoculatorz. Biolog, Inc. is the only authorized distributor and supplier of this system in the United States and Canada. The system requires the use of proprietary Biolog, Inc. MicroPlateTM test panels, which are automatically read and analyzed by the identification and PM software. Biolog, Inc. is the sole manufacturer of these MicroPlates. No other microbiological identification system uses Biolog, Inc. patented carbon-source utilization technology. No other products or companies use Biolog's proprietary ID/PM technology for cellular characterization through substrate utilization with redox dye based chemistries. There are no authorized resellers of Biolog products within the US and Canada. Desired features are: •Identification of approximately 1,350 species of aerobic Gram negative and Gram positive organisms on one GEN III MicroPlateTM. The OmniLogTM can hold up to 50 microplates at a time. •Identification of 359 species of anaerobes, 267 species of yeast and 618 species of filamentous fungi through the addition of the MicroStation component. Each morphological group uses a unique microplate assay format that is proprietary to Biolog, Inc. •Each BioLog MicroPlateTM contains unique substrates in each well of the microplate that are utilized for identification and characterization by the System. • Biolog GEN III Inoculating Fluid for aerobic identification contains a proprietary redox dye based chemistry used to indicate an organism's capability to metabolize the various substrates loaded into the wells of the GEN III MicroPlateTM. This proprietary dye is dried down in the wells of the microplate for the anaerobe, yeast and filamentous fungi microplates. No other microbial identification technology uses this substrate based dye reduction technology. •Species in the identification database must include environmental, marine, veterinary, agricultural, and clinical microorganisms. This is a notice of intent and is not a request for competitive quotations or proposals. No solicitation is available. Firms that believe they can provide these items are encouraged to identify themselves and provide a substantive statement with descriptive literature and any other supporting information to the Contracting Officer within 10 days of publication of this notice. All information received within 10 days of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government to determine if the alternative items meets the Government's requirements and are capable of performing the intended task(s). All responses must be in writing and may be faxed to the attention of Donita Furman, fax 402-762-4145, or email at donita.furman@ars.usda.gov. Questions concerning this acquisition must be directed to Donita Furman, email donita.furman@ars.usda.gov.
