- Description
- This solicitation and any resultant contract is a stewardship project in accordance with Section 8205 of Public Law 113-79, the Agricultural Act of 2014. This grants the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management authority to enter into stewardship contracting projects for up to 10 years with private persons or public or private entities, by contract or by agreement, to perform services to achieve land management goals for the national forests or public lands that meet local and rural community needs. Section 8205 supersedes the authority granted to the Forest Service in Section 347. This is a noncommercial item acquisition that has been tailored to fit the Government's method of trading goods for services. Description of Work - The Shelter Stewardship Restoration Project is located on the Pacific Ranger District North (Forks) of the Olympic National Forest. Restoration objectives for the project area are summarized as follows: • Improve Forest Health- Enhancement of tree vigor, growth and increase resistance to insect and disease • Economic Benefit to the local communities • Wildlife Habitat Enhancement- Commercial tree thinning promoting the development of large trees and old forest structure. • Utilize Timber - Provide wood resource to forest product industry. • Watershed and Fisheries enhancement by removing old culverts and road decommissioning. To accomplish these objectives, the contract includes the following activities: commercial harvest treatments on approximately 174 acres removing an estimated 21,515 tons of commercial sawtimber products, Specified Road Reconstruction (approx. 2.3 miles), road maintenance activities associated with log haul, removal of 2 culverts and road decommissioning. The Shelter Stewardship Project is located in Township 28 North, Range 11 West, Sections 5, 7 and 8; Township 28 North, Range 12 West, Sections 1, 2, 11 and 12 in Clallam County, Washington. The Willamette Base Meridian is utilized. It is estimated that work will begin by October 15, 2015 and shall be completed by December 31, 2019. Actual start date may be negotiated based upon actual award date, prospective work and weather conditions.
