- Description
- P15PS01227 Resurface Main Battlefield Trails at Visitor Center at Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park, Brownsville, Texas, per the scope of work. Clarifications and answers to questions asked during the site visit. Clarifications and questions include: - Paragraph 2 General Requirements should read "... and one (1) optional Contract Line (Bid) Item..." vice "... two (2)..." This will match up correctly with the sub-paragraphs that follow. - Paragraph 3, the last note should read "... asphalt trails vary slightly in width..." vice "... length...". However, there are actually a couple locations where the existing asphalt trail is 10' wide in the area of the back boardwalk near the "pavilion." However, the final width of all concrete surfaces, except as noted, shall remain 8 feet wide. NOTE: There are three (3) locations where the asphalt walkway gradually widens to a total width of 14' (+/-). These locations have benches or provide access to a wayside. The widening occurs gradually over a length of 20' (+/-). These areas shall be replaced with concrete as well, with an expansion joint between them and the 8' wide main concrete trail surface. In the two (2) locations with benches, the benches shall be removed and re-installed in the same locations. - Paragraph 3, at the bottom of Page 3 reads "1/2" x 1" deep crack control joints shall be located every 8 feet." It should read "1/4" x 1" deep..." NOTE: The 1" depth is based on a 4" thick sidewalk. The final depth should be equal to 1/4 of the final sidewalk depth. Question #1: Can the walkway be accessed other than along the length of the path? Answer: The first 276' section can be accessed from the parking lot around the North side of the building adjacent to the shade covers/picnic area. Other areas will need to be accessed from the Overlook Trail, which extends from the back parking area to the Main Battlefield Trail, but is not part of the project. Access from the Maintenance Road/Overlook Road across the "grassy areas" is not possible due to the soil conditions. Follow-on question: Can the grass be cut back along the edge of the trail to allow equipment to turn around, etc., if the contractor drags that area to remove ruts, etc., when work is completed? Answer: Yes, with the following caveats. At the Northwest end, near the loop and pavilion, those " turn arounds" need to be located on the West side of the trail. The grass cannot be cut back the entire length of the trail, but select locations can be coordinated with the Park in advance for equipment turn around, etc. The amount of grass cut down shall be kept to a minimum and care must be taken not to get too far out where the soils is too soft to support equipment. The Park may elect to simply let those areas grow back vice dragging them to remove ruts, etc. This will be determined at the time based on what those areas look like after construction is complete.
