Description
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District will issuing an unrestricted Invitation for Bids for Bird Island Habitat Restoration, Marion, MA. The estimated construction cost is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. The proposed project involves the reconstruction of Bird Island, which is a 4-acre gravel and boulder-composed island in Buzzards Bay, approximately one-half mile off the coast of Marion, and 3 miles from Marion Town Wharf. Under this contract the successful bidder will be required to provide construction services for the Bird Island Restoration Project located in Buzzards Bay, Marion, Massachusetts. The project involves barging approximately 13,125 tons of armor stone (2,500-3,200-lb size) and 575 CY of transition stone (up to 320-lb size) to the island and reconstruction and repair of approximately 1,000 linear feet of revetment surrounding the island, importing and filling approximately 5,500 CY of gravel on the island, and planting sparse vegetation in order to re-establish and expand habitat for endangered sea birds. Access to the island is by shallow-draft boat and barge and requires installation of temporary unloading platform on the island. Construction of two mooring pile structures is allowed in the near shore area. Work on the island is limited to a construction window between September 8 and April 7 due to environmental restrictions on the island. A staging and loading area will be available to the contractor at the Marion Town Wharf, along with a mooring area in Sippican Harbor. The project must be completed within two construction seasons. This notice is not an invitation for bids at this time. The solicitation requirements and contract documents to include instructions for submission and the response date will be available on or about August 3, 2015. No telephonic, mailed, faxed requests for hard copies of this solicitation will be accepted. The solicitation will only be available online; in order to download the solicitation, offerors must access the Federal Business Opportunities website (www.fbo.gov).
