- Event: Industrial Operation Division (IOD) Industry Day Sponsor: Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) Industrial Operations Division (IOD) Background : IOD's machine shop is a mixture of manual and programmable Computer Numerical Control (CNC) mills, lathes, water jets, and press brakes. The ALC desires to tighten configuration management of CNC programs while at the same time addressing capacity and planning constraints within the shop. CNC programs are currently developed by IOD's Computer Aided Design (CAD)/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) shop and transferred to the machine by hard drive. The Aviation Technical Information Management System (ATIMS) is ALC's technical data repository and the storage of programs on hard drives and the machines creates a traceability risk. IOD's machine shop is capacity constrained. A significant portion of the work is simple components with no commercial source of supply. Outsourcing this work will increase IOD's effective capacity without investment. Depending on the component, several forms of technical data are generated, but all components are quality checked against an approved 2D print. ALC repairs and fabricates thousands of unique components. The current Information Technology (IT) system does not allow for tracking of material and tooling requirements for each job or shop inventory. Without a job management tool, labor hours are wasted tracking material and days lost when the material needs to be ordered. Specifically, the USCG requires the following: 1. The machine hardware and/or software that connects to and pulls programs from ALC's ATIMS needs to be upgraded. The machine interface needs to terminate in an Ethernet connection with specified language. ALC's Information Systems Division (ISD) will connect the machine to the network. 2. Find companies to outsource ALC designed components using exiting technical data. 3. Procure job management software to assist with inventory tracking, bills of material, tooling requirements, etc. The IOD Industry Day will be held at the ALC at Coast Guard Base, Building 35, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 on August 27, 2015 from 0900 to 1600 Eastern Standard Time (EST). Who Should Attend: Companies, large and small, including socioeconomic businesses that are interested in ALC contracting and subcontracting opportunities representing the aviation industry manufacturing services are all encouraged to attend.
