Description
The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. ("AURA"), on behalf of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) Project Office, announces the opportunity for qualified contractors to propose on the manufacture, assembly and testing of the LSST M1M3 Mirror Cell. This opportunity will require a contractor to provide all facilities, labor, materials, equipment, components, transportation, supplies and management, as required, either directly or through appropriate subcontractors, for the manufacturing, assembly, and testing necessary to provide the M1M3 Mirror Cell, the M1M3 mirror cover and all other equipment required to vacuum test the M1M3 Mirror Cell, including the four test stands which support the M1M3 Mirror Cell and all temporary vacuum covers. The M1M3 Mirror Cell is a large, metal structure designed to safely support and maintain the proper mirror shapes and enable the mirror system to connect to the Telescope Mount Assembly. The M1M3 Mirror Cell provides a stiff load path from the telescope hexapod hardpoints and mirror support actuators to the TMA structure. The Mirror Cell deck plate provides attachment points and pass-through of mirror support actuator frames and nozzles to inject air into the interior of the M1M3 cells to provide temperature control of the glass. The Mirror Cell also provides a vacuum boundary for the M1M3 mirror coating operation. The interior design provides adequate depth to enable servicing of the mirror support components, with a floor layout which enables the movement of a service dolly. The Mirror Cell will also include a cover which will enable vacuum testing as well as a secure lid during shipment to the summit site location in Chile. Contractors that have experience fabricating and manufacturing telescope components for observatories and that are interested in receiving the bid documents should contact Deborah Gronet, Contracts Officer, via email at dgronet@aura-astronomy.org, subject line "LSST M1M3 Mirror Cell." The email message should include a brief description of the contractor's experience in fabricating and manufacturing telescope components. Upon receipt of this information, potential qualified contractors with confirmed experience will be provided credentials to access the bid documents as well as other requirements information to support the procurement process. Bids for this procurement are due by 3:00 o'clock PM Mountain Standard Time on August 14, 2015. Questions can be directed to Deborah Gronet via email or via telephone at 520.318.8366.
