Description
USACE Carters Powerhouse is looking to purchase a brake dust collector system for all its unit generators. There are four generators and each one has six equally spaced brake pads under the rotor. The brakes are air actuated and are applied when the unit is shutting down. When a normal shut down occurs the brakes will be applied at 20% speed and will remain applied until the unit reaches 0%. When an emergency shutdown occurs brakes come on at 50% and pulse on and off until the unit reaches 20% speed. At this point the brakes will remain applied continuously until the unit reaches 0% speed and will stay applied until the unit is getting ready to roll out again. This process leaves behind a considerable amount of brake dust that causes substantial build up in the air housing over a short period of time. To eliminate this brake dust build up, we are looking for a system that collects the brake dust whenever the brakes get applied.
