- BACKGROUND: The USAF is initiating an acquisition program to replace the Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) called Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD). GBSD will replace the entire flight system, retaining the silo basing mode while recapitalizing the ground facilities, and implements a new Weapon System Command and Control (WSC2). A Materiel Development Decision (MDD) Acquisition Decision Memorandum (ADM) was approved 11 Oct 2013. A resulting Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) was completed in July 2014. The GBSD Program Management Office (PMO) has held two industry days and made the draft Capabilities Development Document (CDD) available to authorized personnel. Access to the CDD is restricted to Hill AFB, UT. The Air Force is refining the proposed acquisition strategy in preparation for a Milestone A decision currently scheduled for 2QFY16. INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT: The GBSD Program Management Office continues to encourage open and frequent communication from industry during the ongoing market research phase. The PMO expects to release another round of RFI questions in August and conduct an Industry Day 3.0 during early September. The schedule and agenda will be posted soon.
