- Description
- Statement of Work Combined Synopsis Solicitation System Requirements: o Must include an 8" rotating (clockwise or counter-clockwise) grinding/polishing wheel with variable speed between 20 and 300 RPM. Low rotation speeds are required for final thinning/polishing of fragile 10-50 nm thick wedge-shaped TEM specimens of our laser welded materials. o Must include water flow system for polishing/grinding lubrication/cooling and bowl wash functions. o Must be able to oscillate and rotate specimen during polishing. o Must be able to control angular position of specimen (pitch and roll) between +/- 2.5 degrees with micrometers containing Vernier demarcations. This is to ensure exact angle calculation, ensure parallel milling of planar samples, repeatability, and verification of angle polishing. o Polishing platen must be removable and replicable from polishing/grinding wheel. o Must include cam-locking type system to allow removal and replacement of specimen without changing specimen position. o Must include two digital micrometers to:  Dynamically read total specimen thickness  Read out/set amount of material to be removed in real-time with micrometer resolution o Must include all accessories required for:  Wedge polishing to electron transparency (10-50 nm) of specimens for transmission electron microscopy  Optical-quality flat polishing of specimens for scanning electron microscopy  Precise cross-sectioning of specimens with 1 micron resolution for serial sectioning and imaging.  Alignment of the above specimens and the polishing tool itself repeatably and precisely.  Mounting or holding both metallography mount specimens and rough-cut samples o Must operate on standard 110V AC power. o Must include two (2) year warranty. o 8" magnetic polishing platen is required
