Description
Pulverisette 14 Manufacturer's info List of Items to be purchased The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)/Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)/ Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA), Technology and Science Division (TSD) located in Kansas City, MO intends to award a sole source, Purdhase Order to Laboratory Synergy, LLC (DUNS: 139609767 CAGE Code: 3VLA0 ) for a Pulverisette 14 (High speed rotor mill) used to to rapidly grind large samples of corn and soybean for the purpose of DNA extraction. This procurement is being conducted in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1The statutory authority is 41 U.S.C. 253( c )(1) The property or services needed are available from only one responsible qualified source at this time and no other type of property or services will satisfy these needs. To the best of our knowledge, no other manufacturer of comparable equipment sells a mill comparable to the Pulverisette 14's ability to rapidly grind relatively large corn and soybean samples to fine particle size without heating or cross contamination. 1. The Pulverisette 14 is a variable speed mill that can be set from between 6,000 and 20,000 rpm. It has an automatic speed compensation mechanism, which enables the mill to be adapted to the individual sample composition and feed rate. This provides for rapid, consistent processing of samples from soft to medium hard texture,of small to large in quantity. 2. The Pulverisette 14 can be taken apart rapidly without the use of tools and all pa1ts in contact with the grain can be washed for decontamination. 3. Pulverisette 14 uses sieves to control final particle size of the ground product. Sieves are available from 0.08-6 mm. 4. Pulverisette 14 was designed with an air routing system that provides constant airflow to cool the rotor and all the components of the grinding vessel. In addition, the grinding chamber has been designed with an impact bar, which greatly reduces the friction and thus heat generation that occurs in sieve type mills. 5. A wear-free seal is present between the grinding chamber and the rotor and motor compartment. Preventing sample contamination of mill components that cannot be adequately cleaned for decontamination. In addition, it has a larger fan that blows cooling air though a filter into the milling chamber. This creates a positive pressure that prevents foreign particles from the environment from being drawn into, and contaminating the sample. 6. The Pulverisette 14 has an easy to read digital display of grinding speed and can interface with a vibratory feeder for efficient grinding of large sample volumes. 7. It was engineered and is manufactured by Fritsch GmbH, Milling and Sizing, Industriestrasse 8, 55743 Idar-Oberstein, Germany. It is sold and serviced in the United States by Lab Synergy. Advantages of the 2010 Geno/Grinder over competitive products: • The Pan, rotor and sieve screen are compatible with all P 14 mills. The laboratory has some of this equipment already, including a vibratory feeder, that could be used for this mill. This is not necessary but a ce1tainly a cost-savings for the laboratory. • Rotor Speed: Variable from 6,000 - 20,000 RPM, which is needed to ' dial in' a given specific grind. Other mills have this capacity but most do not have a constant speed control that maintains the set point rpm at full load. • SEAL: Wear free Labyrinth seal to separate the mill chamber and Motor. Although not unique to this mill, not many comparable equipment has this feature. • Cooling of the sample the described mill is the only one of which I am aware that has two cooling methods, both high capacity air flow and an IMPACT bar in the grinding chamber. • Dust Particle: Can't enter the mill. By design, the inside of the mill is above atmospheric pressure. Other mills do not have this feature. • The grinding chamber and surfaces in contact with the mill can be quickly disassembled by hand and cleaned. I am unaware of any other sieve type mills that has this capacity. It is essential that we be able to decontaminate the mill between uses. This Notice of Intent is not a request for competitive proposals. No solicitation documents are available and telephone requests will not be honored. However, if a firm believes it can meet the requirements it must furnish information about its products and services to the Contract Specialist listed on this notice by 4:00pm. Mountain Time (MT) on the closing date of this notice. Supporting evidence must be furnished in sufficient detail to demonstrate the ability to comply with the above requirement. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516 - (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing ) and the Small business size standard is 500 Employees. Responses received after the response date or without the required information will be deemed nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. Capability statements may be sent to: Carol Dingess, Contracting Officer, USDA-APHIS-MRPBS, AAMD Procurement Branch, 2150 Centre Avenue Building B MS (2E6) Fort Collins, CO 80526, or via email @ Carol.Dingess@aphis.usda.gov or fax @ 970-472-1897.
