- Request for Information The Space and Missile Systems Center's Advanced Systems and Development Directorate (SMC/AD) is seeking information to determine the feasibility of a joint High-Power Solar Electric Propulsion (HP-SEP) on-orbit space technology demonstration. Based on on-going SMC/AD internal analysis, HP-SEP technologies promise reduced launch system delta-v requirements and concurrent improvements to the satellite's mass margin over chemical propulsion. The purpose of the HP-SEP demonstration is to explore technologies for SMC to incorporate into future spacecraft acquisitions. The demonstration would be designed to mitigate key component and integrated system-level risks to promote HP-SEP insertion into programs of record. Furthermore, there is potential for collaboration with NASA on the maturation of SEP technologies.
