- Sources Sought The Tongass National Forest, Alaska Region 10 is seeking "open market" sources to compete for the following work. Interested contractors are asked to respond to the following solicitation: AG-0116-S-15-0025 1 Scope of Contract Project work will include, but may not be limited to, construction of a float and dock system at Anan Bay to improve the transfer from watercraft or seaplanes to land for visitors to the Anan Wildlife Observatory. Additional work at the project site may include improvements to the trail between the float abutment and the main Observatory trail and installation of two anchor piles for the US Forest Service crew wanigan that is moored in the bay during the observatory operating season are included in the project. The project work is divided into two parts, as described below: 1. The Base Bid Item will construct the float and dock system plus an upland visitor briefing area and about 25 feet of rock embankment foot trail with crushed rock surfacing to access the existing shoreline trail. Work on the float and dock system will include, but may not be limited to, the following components: Furnish and drive 5 - 20" diameter, 1/2" wall thickness pipe anchor piles; fabricate, furnish and install a reinforced concrete shore abutment anchored to the shoreline; fabricate, furnish and install about 180 lineal feet of 8 ft. to 10 ft. wide float segments as SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS; fabricate, furnish, and install the various connections hardware necessary to anchor the float segments to the piles (pile collars) and each other plus to connect the float access bridge to the shore abutment; refurbish (including application of corrosion-resistant coating), transport, and install a Government-furnished 6 ft. by 65 ft. steel float access ramp (gangway) presently located in the U.S. Forest Service log sort yard at Thorne Bay, Alaska; and retrofit and install an existing Government-furnished 24 ft. wide by 20 ft. long float terminal float for the disembarkation/embarkation of passengers from seaplanes and marine vessels. Retrofit of the Government Furnished terminal float will include the fabrication and supply of two glued-laminated walers plus connection brackets to bolt the new walers onto the existing float, and installation of two fabricated pile collars. Contractor shall also furnish and install the rock embankment material to fill the reinforced concrete shore abutment and construct the upland visitor briefing area and upland trail connection. Some socketing of piles may be required in order to achieve the minimum pile depths required. 2. Option Bid Item 1 will furnish and install 2 - 20" diameter, 1/2" wall thickness pipe anchor piles and fabricate two pile collars for the Forest Service crew wanigan. C.2 Project Location: a. The project site is located in Anan Bay on the Cleveland Peninsula, at the southern side of the mouth of Bradfield Canal where it intersects with Ernest Sound, in Section 36, Township 65 South, Range 87 East, Copper River Meridian. It is located 27 air miles south-southeast of Wrangell, Alaska, and is accessible by small boats or seaplanes from Wrangell plus other southeast Alaska communities including Ketchikan.
