Description
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Research Center (ARC) is hereby soliciting information under this Request for Information (RFI) to determine whether or not there are interested and available vendor sources capable of meeting the identified requirements. Statement of Work: 1. OBJECTIVE: A Langmuir-Blodgett deposition trough is required for the fabrication of biomembranes. Langmuir-Blodgett film contains one or more monolayers of an organic material, deposited from the surface of a liquid onto a solid by immersing (or emersing) the solid substrate into (or from) the liquid. A monolayer is adsorbed homogeneously with each immersion or emersion step, thus films with very accurate thickness can be formed. This thickness is accurate because the thickness of each monolayer is known and can therefore be added to find the total thickness of a LangmuirBlodgett film. The monolayers are assembled vertically and are usually composed of amphiphilic molecules with a hydrophilic head and a hydrophobic tail (example: fatty acids). 2. SPECIFICATIONS: Interface unit for automatic control of mono/bi-layer film depositions; Barrier drive with symmetric compression, with max compression ratio >10; Surface area of trough top > 250 cm2; Pair of hydrophilic Delrin barriers with adjustable speed in the range 0.1 250 mm/min; Dipper for fully automatic and software controlled operation for LB-film depositions on solid substrates, with adjustable dipping speed in the range 0.1 100 mm/min; Software for Windows 7 & 8 operating systems; and Instruction manual. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) ARC is seeking capability statements from all interested parties, including Small, Small Disadvantaged (SDB), 8(a), Woman-owned (WOSB), Veteran Owned (VOSB), Service Disabled Veteran Owned (SDVOSB), Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) businesses, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)/Minority Institutions (MI) for the purposes of determining the appropriate level of competition and/or small business subcontracting goals for the Linear Actuation System. The Government reserves the right to consider a Small, 8(a), Woman-owned (WOSB), Service Disabled Veteran (SD-VOSB), or HUBZone business set-aside based on responses hereto. Interested firms are requested to submit their response to this RFI via email only to Karen Klaas at email karen.klaas@nasa.gov no later than 4:00 p.m. PST, on Tuesday 10/13/2015. Submissions shall be compatible with and accessible using Microsoft Office or Adobe Acrobat software applications. When responding, reference RFI NNA16564683L-AKK - Langmuir-Blodgett Deposition Trough. This announcement does not constitute a Request for Proposal. Please do not request for a copy of the solicitation, as no solicitation exists at this time. If a firm requirement is developed and a solicitation is issued, the solicitation will be made available on the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) website (www.fbo.gov) and the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) ( http://procure.arc.nasa.gov ). It is the responsibility of offerors and interested parties to monitor the Internet site for the release of the solicitation and amendments, if any and will be responsible for downloading their own copy of the documents. NASA Clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, is applicable. The Center Ombudsman for this acquisition can be found at http://prod.nais.nasa.gov/pub/p ub_library/Omb.html.
