- Description
- The link provided is to an approved J&A. NRL is in possession of a prototype robot developed by Electromechanica, Inc. (EMI) and is tasked with conducting extensive experiments in order to define performance capability in relevant environments; however in order to evaluate the EMI prototype robot in increasingly more realistic environments, modifications, including testing of advanced software and improved hardware to environmentally seal the robot for use in realistic hostile environments are required. After initial laboratory testing of these aspects, modifications to the robot system will be provided to NRL for determination of system effectiveness and operational related parameters in increasingly more realistic environments. NRL conducted experiments will focus on performance factors such as in-pipe mobility and the ability for the robot to transport sensor package(s)or provide more information on pipe condition. Test matrices and hardware used in NRL experiments will be modified to incorporate results of the additional capabilities developed in this tasking. It is not the intent of this work to develop or evaluate alternative robotic systems but to provide modifications required for relevant environment experimentation of the EMI prototype robot. Tasks involve software and hardware upgrades and laboratory based experimentation. 4 tasks are defined and additional details are provided below: 1) Technical support for NRL experimentation, 2) Operation in wet/dirty environment (environmental sealing), 3) Operational stability through software and hardware error handling, 4) Improvements in linear actuation and maintainability.
