Description
This is a notice of intent to increase the ceiling of Contract N66001-15-C-4015 to Cleveland Clinic, awarded by SSC Pacific on behalf of the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency Biological Technologies Office (DARPA/BTO) on 28 January 2015 for a base period of performance of 18 months followed by one (1) 30-month option and one (1) 12-month option. The effort under the contract supports the DARPA BTO Hand Proprioception & Touch Interfaces (HAPTIX) program and proposes to develop a battery of validated functional metrics for bi-directionally integrated advanced prosthetic limb systems that will be adaptable to both advanced and current standard-of-care prosthetics, clinically implementable with a minimum requirement of technological expertise to operate, flexible to account for numerous systems approaches, and sensitive to system performance and reflective of requirements for quantifying different control and feedback strategies. Based on the success to date of metrics development, the new effort under the modification will allow for additional patients to participate in Metrics validation. With these additional patients the effort will provide significant additional statistical power to the metrics validation and is expected to move this technology forward to transition to warfighters. The NAICS code for this procurement is 541711- Research and Development in Biotechnology. Due to the nature of Research and Development efforts, DARPA could not have reasonably estimated the results of the research from this program, which has seen breakthroughs that will benefit from continued trials under this current contract. It is expected that the technology will transition for use by the warfighter. This action includes a ceiling increase of approximately $178,730. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals or quotes and will be posted for 15 days. A determination by the Government not to compete based upon response to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Interested parties may submit comments in writing to the Contract Specialist, Ms. Sabina Sabedra, Code 22530, SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific who may be reached by telephone at (619) 553-4522 or via email to sabina.sabedra@navy.mil.
