Description
Whetstone Access Map Whetstone Project Map Whetstone Photos This is a PRESOLICITATION announcement. The solicitation is anticipated to be posted to Federal Business Opportunities during the winter of 2016. The purpose of this presolicitation announcement is to provide an opportunity for potential quoters to review the project in the field. Description of Work. This project includes approximately 8.75 miles of spot trail reconditioning and 2.6 miles of new trail on a non-motorized route. Approximately 1.25 mile of new trail construction is located on the east end and 1.5 miles is located on the west end of the trail. The project includes installation of a 25-30 foot bridge with rock turnpike approaches, 2- 10 foot puncheon, and 2 12-15 foot turnpike. The project is located in the Sapphire Mountain Range approximately 33 miles southwest of Philipsburg. The existing trail is steep and goes through wet areas. Project Location and Directions. From Philipsburg travel south on MT Hwy 1; turn right onto the Skalkaho Highway (MT Hwy 38), turn left onto FS Road 5106. There are two ways to access the trail: Drive approximately 1 mile south on FS Road 5106 turn right onto FS Road 70 and drive approximately 9 miles. Turn onto FS Road 5072 and continue for approximately 3 miles. The project will utilize portions of FS Road 5073. The other access is off FS Road 5106 to the south. After turning left off the Skalkaho Highway onto FS Road 5106 continue approximately 12 miles. Turn onto FS Road 80 and continue approximately 9 miles to FS Road 8671. The road ends approximately 1 mile where the trail takes off to the north. Site Visit. No formal site visit is planned.
