- Description
- Doing Business with Sandia Brochure CRADA Brochure Background Information Sandia National Laboratories, inventor of the LENS® (Laser Engineered Net Shaping) technology, is seeking to improve the state of the art in additive manufacturing that will lead to better surface finish, improved dimensional accuracy and material use rate, etc. Sandia is also conducting ongoing research and development into hybrid additive/subtractive capabilities, complete powder usage and the use of open source toolpath generation software. This will enable higher deposition rates and provide machined surface finish and accuracy; increased powder usage leading to improved surface finish and layer thickness control, minimized powder waste, leading to full material consumption; and advancing open source toolpath generation software to enable true 3D printing using support structures. Sandia is a leader in additive manufacturing (AM) research. Other AM capabilities include topological optimization, microjet technologies, RoboCasting TM, AM closed-loop process control, nano-inks for electronic printing and AM materials processing, characterization and qualification. Sandia National Laboratories is planning a webinar pertaining to this opportunity. Opportunity Description Sandia seeks to collaborate with a company or companies interested in partnering opportunities leading to improvements in additive manufacturing technology. Mechanisms may take the form of Cooperative Research & Development Agreements (CRADA), or Strategic Partnership Project (SPP) agreements depending on whether the work is collaborative. Additional information related to these agreements is attached to this announcement. CRADAs and SPPs provide the potential for significant advantages for our partners, including up to exclusive licenses to Sandia Subject Inventions. Please see attached "Doing Business with Sandia" for a description of the various types of partnerships and agreements available. Evaluation Criteria Potential partners will be required to provide funding to Sandia to develop this technology. In addition, partners must have a significant demonstrable interest/track record in developing and deploying this or related technologies. Interested companies are preferred but not required to have experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas: Lasers Additive manufacturing Software toolpaths Instructions to Responders Interested parties that meet the criteria outlined above are invited to respond. To express interest and to obtain additional information, please contact Yasmin Dennig via email at ydennig@sandia.gov. Sandia will consider teaming arrangements where two or more companies may form a team to satisfy the requirements. Sandia National Laboratories is a multi-program laboratory managed and operated by Sandia Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, for the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration under Contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.
