Description
OSTOMY AND CONTINENCE NURSING SERVICES FOR THE BOISE VA HEALTHCARE SYSTEM (BVAHS) The primary purpose of this Contract will be to add BVAHS nursing staff. The services under this contract will provide a Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurse (WOCN); the contractor is to provide staff on an as needed basis when a patient requires such services, as determined by the general surgeons. Services provided shall include but not limited to the following: "Approximately 30-50 patients per year require wound and ostomy nursing services. Each patient is seen on the average three times for a total of 90 visits in one year. There will be an average of 5-6 new patients per year needing this level of care. "Contractor personnel to provide consultation regarding all aspects of ostomy care including pre-procedural counseling, marking appropriate sites for stomas, initial ostomy fittings and ongoing management of patient ostomy problems. Consultation may also include ostomy management to include but not be limited to draining wounds, sinuses and fistulas. It is anticipated that a minimum of three (3) visits for ostomy management of new enterstomal patient (pre-operative, soon post-operative for appliance placement and follow up). Additional visits will be on an as needed basis. "The parties shall establish a procedure by which the BVAHS notifies contractor of the need for OCN services. The procedure shall specify the person to contact at each facility and the information that will be provided with any new OCN services patient. Services shall be rendered by a pre-authorized RN within two (2) days of receiving a referral. "Following initial evaluation of an OCN patient, Contractor will coordinate with the VA physician, primary registered nurse pursuant to physician order, and the provision of OCN services with such other healthcare services the patient may be receiving or may require. Types of care required: "Outpatient care: This will cover the pre-operative and follow-up care for patients, 2 to up to 3 visits per patient. Estimated to be 90 procedures per year. "Inpatient Care: will be as needed in the immediate post-operative care, up to 3 visits per patient. Estimated to be a total of 150 procedures per year.
