- Description
- Equipment Lease The USGS requires instrumentation and personnel to collect high-resolution swath bathymetry mapping data for 23 days along the southeast Alaska continental shelf and slope in water depths between 100m and 2000m. The primary purpose of the work is to map and characterize the seafloor expression of the Queen Charlotte-Fairweather fault system to better constrain regional and transoceanic earthquake and tsunami hazards. The project requires continuous, high-quality coverage at approximately 10 m resolution, using a Reson SeaBat 7160 Survey System, a POS MV motion referencing unit, and expendable bathythermographs for sound velocity data. (See details below) The contractor will provide two technicians, lead the mobilization and demobilization, provide and install a transducer pole mount, conduct an accurate patch test and system calibration, and perform all underway data acquisition and real-time QA/QC. All survey equipment will be provided and maintained throughout the survey in operational order by the contractor. The planned window of operations is May 1 ¿ June 25, 2016 and will take place on a contract vessel. The R/V Medeia (Alaska Department of Fish and Game) has been identified as appropriate and available. We are working towards securing the vessel through a cooperative agreement. A purchase request will be submitted as soon as funding is confirmed. Equipment and data Specifications The final deliverables expected from the survey contractor are the following: 1.Reson SeaBat 7160 Survey System (minimum source frequency of 40 kHz) 2.Pole mount for multibeam transducer/receiver compatible with contract vessel to be determined. Pole mount and motion referencing unit should be collocated 3.POS MV motion referencing unit 4.Raw, unprocessed multibeam data files 5.Acoustic backscatter, snippets and water column backscatter data 6.Motion corrected survey line files in a format compatible with CARIS HIPS and SIPS (i.e., s7k files) 7.Preliminary gridded mosaic generated during real-time acquisition 8.Any additional navigation/GPS data files generated during acquisition 9.The POS-MV data recorded at 100Hz with the POSPac loging group packets selected. 10.The Sound Velocity data with associated station location, time and/or underway navigation data 11.Frequent data backup (e.g., twice per day) For further information, interested parties may contact the Contracting Officer, Stewart Evans at (916) 278-9334 or sevans@usgs.gov.
