- Description
- Request For Information - Point of Injury Capabilities to assess, monitor and/or maintain stability of moderate-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) casualties. This RFI is issued solely for information and planning purposes and does not constitute a solicitation. Neither unsolicited proposals nor any other kind of offers will be considered in response to this RFI. Responses to this notice are not offers and will not be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract. The Department of Defense (DoD) Combat Casualty Care Research Program (CCCRP) plans, programs, budgets and oversees the execution of trauma research aimed at optimizing survival and recovery of US service personnel injured in combat (current and future scenarios). In contrast to investigator-initiated medical research, the DoD CCCRP supports requirements-driven investigations aimed at resolving defined gaps in combat casualty care. As the DoD CCCRP endeavors to sustain and advance successes in Neurotrauma Research, it seeks information necessary for advancing the care for traumatic brain injury and other forms of neurologic trauma. Included in this area of interest are three capabilities for use in moderate to severe TBI: 1) Devices or assays to rapidly diagnose the severity of brain injury at point of injury or point of need that can be used by first responders (medics and corpsmen) 2) Technology to monitor, record and transmit critical physiological parameters in the minutes to hours following injury, and stabilize the casualty during prolonged evacuation times, and 3) Drugs, biologics, or other agents that can be used in the pre-hospital environment to mitigate the progression of secondary brain injury. It is requested that the devices described be at a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6, the technology system/subsystem model or prototype demonstrated in a relevant environment. See Attachment for full RFI and submission instructions.
