Description
This is modification 1 to the synopsis entitled TIME-TRIGGERED ETHERNET EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE AND NNJ16575018R which was posted on January 27, 2016. You are notified that the following changes are made: The purpose of this amendment is to answer the question below: Question #1 Honeywell provided the Time Triggered Ethernet (TTE) Equipment and Software for use on the NASA Orion program and to NASA laboratories at JSC and NASA KSC. The Honeywell TTE Switch and End System equipment supports ARINC 664 communications as an RC traffic class. The equipment has been provided in several quality levels with the highest quality level was successfully flown as part of the Orion EFT-1 flight on 12/5/2014. We believe this means Honeywell is a supplier of Time Triggered Ethernet equipment with NASA approved capabilities and qualifications. Whereas Honeywell does not typically respond to these opportunities, this Pre-solicitation has a statement that is factually misleading we hope can be adjusted. Since Honeywell builds TTE equipment used in labs and vehicles, the following statement is misleading: TTTech is the sole manufacturer of commercially available Time-Triggered Ethernet (AS6802) equipment and software. Honeywell has worked cooperatively with TTTech to ensure TTE equipment interoperability between our two companies and that users get the correct equipment for their needs. We intend to continue this policy. Should this solicitation be augmented, it is suggested that an End System performance requirement be added defining the number of unique receive messages (VLs) and transmit messages (VLs) required to be supported by the equipment. For example, the number of unique receive and transmit messages varies greatly by intended use: • Test Port - Requires support for 4096 Receive VLs, • Integrated Flight Control Module - Requires supports for ~400 Receive VLs and ~100 Transmit VLs • Standard Line Replaceable Electronics Unit -- Requires supports for ~40 Receive VLs and ~10 Transmit VLs • Simple Line Replaceable Electronics Unit -- Requires supports for ~4 Receive VLs and 1 Transmit VLs We share this suggestion to help ensure NASA users get the equipment they need to fulfill the intended purpose. Answer #1: This procurement is motivated by the AES A&S project's desire to evaluate the Gen 3. version of TTTech's TTEthernet IP (Pegasus). Some of the features in which we are interested include: • A network stack for best-effort traffic, implemented in software ((including UDP transport and IPv4 network layers). • A network stack for critical (RC and TT) traffic, implemented in hardware with a UDP payload size limit of 8000 bytes. The Gen 2. version of the TTech's TTEthernet IP (Phoenix) provides 3 traffic classes at the data-link layer, but does not provide support for higher protocol layers. In the past, the A&S project has needed to write our own Layer 3 and Layer 4 services in software to gain the needed functionality. Unfortunately, we have found a software-based stack negatively impacts the determinism of critical links, driving our interest in the above mentioned capability. It is my understanding that Honeywell's TTGbE product is based upon the Gen 2. (Phoenix) IP, and thus does not provide the key features motivating this procurement. The statement "TTTech is the sole manufacturer of commercially available Time-Triggered Ethernet (AS6802) equipment and software" is hereby removed. The due date for receipt of offers is not extended. Documents related to this procurement will be available over the Internet. These documents will reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWW browser application. Potential offerors are responsible for downloading their own copy of the solicitation and amendments (if any).
