Description
hotmelt extruder upgrades TITLE: Sources Sought Notice FDA SS-1161856 This is a SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE to determine the availability of potential small businesses (e.g., 8(a), service-disabled veteran owned small business, HUBZone small business, small disadvantaged business, veteran-owned small business, and women-owned small business) in accordance with FAR 7.104(d). The potential small business will need to demonstrate the capability to perform all facets of the work described below. The sole intent of this Sources Sought Notice is to obtain capabilities for set-aside and procurement planning purposes. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for the proposed acquisition is 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing, with a small business size standard of 500 employees. This is not an invitation for bid, request for proposal, or other solicitation, and in no way obligates the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to award a contract. BACKGROUND: The Food and Drug Administration's Office of Acquisitions and Grants Services have a requirement for hotmelt extruder upgrades (HME) that will assist the division's HME processes by enhancing cutting and pelletization functions during continuous manufacturing. Requested upgrade accessories for the Process 11 twin-screw hotmelt extruder are listed below with technical specification requirements: Item 1: Cooling conveyor belt • Bench top conveyor belt capable for the cooling and support of the processed strand prior to downstream processing such as pelletization • Pharmaceutical grade • Variable speed (1-25 m/min) and cooling control (air cooling) • Small foot-print, preferably no more than 600x350x350 mm (LxWxH) Item 2: Strand Cutting Pelletizer • A bench top pelletizer capable of variable length strand cutting • Variable speed drive (3-25 m/min) with adjustable pellet length (0.5 to 2 mm) • Small foot-print, preferably no more than 300x350x350 mm (LxWxH) • Additional cutting wheels capable of cutting pellet longer than 2 mm, if available Item 3: Data logging system • A complete data logging system, including software, computer system, and any necessary connection adapters, to allow recording of process data • At a minimum, recorded process parameters should include: extruder speed, torque, barrel and die temperature, melt temperature, die pressure, and feeder rate. Item 4: Single lead feeder screws (2 sets) • One set of single lead feeder screw with core for medium output; suitable for powder materials, diameter: 12 mm, helix pitch: 8mm, core: 6mm • One set of single lead feeder screw with core for medium to high output; suitable for powder materials and pellets, diameter: 12 mm, helix pitch: 16mm, core: 6mm Item 5: Liquid feeding system • A complete liquid feeding system suitable for Process 11 barrel • Digitally controlled peristaltic pump, with variable feeding rate • The feeding system should be interfaced/interlocked with the Process 11 start/stop signals for synchronized operation • Liquid feeding plug • Minimum of 2 m feeding tube Item 6: Delivery, Installation, and On-site training The vendor will cover all costs associated with the following: o System crating, shipping, and delivery. o Full system software and peripheral installation (if applicable). o On-site hardware and software training (if applicable).
