- This is a sources sought to determine the availability of potential sources having the capabilities to provide the SPECIFIED REQUIREMENT. All interested vendors are invited to provide information to contribute to this market survey/sources sought including commercial market information. THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION ANNOUNCEMENT. This is a sources sought synopsis only. Questions should be submitted by email to michael.giffon@va.gov. Provide only the requested information below. The purpose of this synopsis is to gain knowledge of potential qualified sources and their size classifications (Service Disabled/Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB/VOSB), Hub zone, 8(a), small, small disadvantaged, woman owned small business, FSS/GSA contract schedule holders or large business) relative to NAICS 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing. Responses to this synopsis will be used by the Government to make appropriate acquisition decisions. After review of the responses to this sources sought synopsis, a solicitation announcement may be published on the FBO website. Responses to this sources sought synopsis are not considered adequate responses to the solicitation announcement. All interested offerors will have to respond to the solicitation announcement in addition to responding to this sources sought announcement. SPECIFIED REQUIREMENT: Network Contracting Office 7, Charleston, SC is seeking sources for a potential contractor to supply the following item: ITEM NO. DESCRIPTION QUANTITY UNIT 1. TBI-0310 Traumatic Brain Injury Model System 1 EA STATEMENT OF WORK Purchase of head trauma contusion device Clinical Utility - A key step in traumatic brain injury research involves the imposing a controlled injury to the brain. The head trauma contusion device provides medical researchers specializing in traumatic brain injury a unique instrument to evaluate the mechanisms underlying brain trauma. The instrument enables the application of standard contusion injury to the brain of small rodents. - This device is required for our VA-funded investigation of traumatic brain injury mechanisms. The vendor must be able to supply instrumentation to meet the following specifications: a.The instrument enables the application of standard contusion injury to the brain of small rodents. b.The amount of cortical depression is user-selectable between 0 and 3.5 mm (0.01 mm increments). c.The instrument is equipped with removable impactor tips (5.0 and 3.0 mm). d.The target velocity of the removable impactor tip is electronically monitored and user-selectable between 1.5 and 5.5 m/sec (01 m/s increments). e.Dwell time, defined as the amount of time the cortical tissue remains depressed at the preset depression level, is user-selectable between 50 milliseconds and 5 seconds (1 millisecond increments). The system is equipped with a contact sensor mechanism that ensures accurate and reliable detection of cortical surface prior to initiating the injury sequence. If a solicitation is issued it will be announced at a later date, and all interested parties must respond to that solicitation announcement separately from the responses to this announcement.
