Description
Sources Sought Notice for Carbon Nanotube Coating of Copper and Aluminum Test Substrates **THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE ONLY, INFORMATION RECEIVED IS FOR MARKET RESEARCH PURPOSES**** The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) seeks information on commercial vendors that are capable depositing carbon nanotube (CNT) coatings that are highly absorbing from the visible out to a wavelength of 20 micrometers (um) on either copper or aluminum test substrate samples. The CNT coated samples will be used to evaluate the current state of the art within the United States in the deposition of such coatings. NIST is seeking vendors that have the following capabilities; 1) Indicate they can deposit such coatings on ½ inch and ¼ inch thick aluminum or copper substrates, and 2) Are capable of CNT coating characterization, such as IR reflectance out to 20 um or Scanning Electron Microscopy, or some other reasonable coating quality verification before return shipment of samples back to NIST. 3) Indicate that they are willing to provide such coating services on similar substrate materials on a regular commercial basis in the future. NIST would provide sample substrates to vendors awarded, if it is determined that this requirement will be procured. The CNT coated samples that are returned from the participating vendors will be tested for IR reflectance and coating durability and adhesion. NIST is seeking responses from all responsible sources, including large and small businesses. If at least two qualified small businesses are identified during this market research stage, then any competitive procurement that resulted would be conducted as a small business set-aside. Small businesses are defined under the associated NAICS code for this effort, 334516, as those domestic sources having 500 employees or less. Please include your company's size classification and socio-economic status in any response to this notice. Companies that are capable of the deposition of CNTs on to the described substrates are requested to email a detailed report describing their abilities to Lynda.Roark@nist.gov no later than the response date for this sources sought notice. The report should include achievable CNT coating reflectance and durability and any other information relevant to your product or capabilities. Also, please indicate the number of days, after receipt of order that is typical for delivery of such coated CNT substrate samples.
