- This Final notice announces an upcoming 2016 Training Innovation Day hosted by Submarine Learning Center (SLC), Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS), and Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS). The Training Innovation Day will be held at Submarine Learning Center Headquarters, Groton, CT. September 7, 2016. The September 7, 2016 Training Innovation Day will afford selected participants the opportunity to present current and emerging training innovations to help shape future learning technology focus of the Submarine Learning Center (SLC), Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS), and Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS). Training innovations can include, but are not limited to, virtual and augmented reality simulations, mobile computing, open content, electronic books, gesture-based computing, adaptive learning, intelligent tutoring, increased automation and artificial intelligence simulation, and massive multiplayer online games (MMOG). Training innovations may also encompass immersive virtual world based environments as well as other educational innovations providing a flexible and powerful set of capabilities available to an instructor. Interested parties should submit a PDF abstract as follows: - Contact information for Primary (and Secondary) Authors - Biography for Primary (and Secondary) Authors (200 word limit) - Abstract Title (10 words or fewer) - Abstract Text (1000 word limit) - No more than five (5) 8 ½ x 11 pages Submitted abstracts must describe how the potential participants novel and innovative training technologies address the following factors: - DoD Technology Readiness Level (TRL) : The desired minimum TRL is TRL 6. - Distance Learning enabler: Describe how the proposed training technology supports distance learning (one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-many) over multiple geographical locations. - Gaming functionality: Describe how the proposed technology supports individual and/or competitive gaming. - Virtual reality immersion enabler: Describe how the proposed technology enables the perception of being physically present in a non-physical world (e.g., customizable avatars). - Measurable student metrics: Describe how the proposed training technology measures student or team performance (e.g., scores, participation, etc). - Interoperability/Integration: Describe how the proposed technology enables the communication and exchange of data between the proposed technology and other technologies, systems, or products. - The proposed training technology must be operable on Windows network (e.g., TRANET). - The proposed technology must not include any deprecated technologies (e.g., windows 7, Flash, ColdFusion, NSAPI, etc). The Government shall evaluate submitted abstracts in light of stated factors and select ten (10) abstracts describing training technologies of most interest to the Government. Authors of selected abstracts shall be notified of selection on or about June 27, 2016. Selectees will have a one-half (1/2) hour opportunity to present their novel training technologies on September 7, 2016. It is anticipated that novel and innovative technologies may encompass non-proprietary information and/or proprietary information. Therefore, selected participants will participate in one-on-one half hour sessions with Government, thereby protecting proprietary information under 18 USC 1905. Briefing templates will be provided to selected participants. Selected participants must adhere to the guidelines outlined in the briefing templates. Initial presentations for Government review shall be due no later than August 1, 2016, with final presentations due no later than August 22, 2016.
