- Description
- The Inner Shelf Project, an Office of Naval Research (ONR) Directed Research Initiative (DRI) project, is designed to collect observations for the testing and development of oceanographic models of the inner continental shelf. While the main field work for the project will be in Summer 2017, the testing phase of this project will occur in Summer 2016 in Monterey Bay. An oceanographic instrument, called an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), is used to measure profiles of ocean currents, including vertical velocities. For the test phase, a self-contained, battery operated ADCP will be moored in Monterey Bay for multiple brief periods lasting a few to several days each. The ADCP must be installed in a customized stable mounting device on the seafloor so that the ADCP is upward-looking at the sea surface. This list of requirements is for both the ADCP instrument and the mounting platform used to install the ADCP on the bottom.
