Description
Request for Information (RFI) for Reserve Battery Technologies for Fuzing 1. Background: The primary focus of the DOD for power sources is reserve batteries due to the historical problems with active batteries operating over temperature and meeting shelf life requirements. The consumer electronics market has driven size and power reduction advancements that now make it feasible to apply large caliber fuzing functionality to smaller formats, especially medium caliber munitions. However, no such imperative has existed to spur the development of the DoD-unique reserve batteries that power such fuzes to keep pace. As a result, there is a strong need to identify smaller reserve power sources (e.g. liquid reserve batteries, etc.) that meet the strict DOD performance requirements while fitting into the small volume allocations. In addition to smaller power sources, the DOD utilizes reserve batteries for mortar and artillery applications. These larger format applications are now in need of power sources that provide increased capability in similar sized packages which is pushing the state of the technology. 2. Requirements: 2.1 The contractor is requested to respond with evidence of engineering experience, capabilities and infrastructure necessary to build prototype or initial quantities of liquid reserve batteries for medium caliber (e.g. 20mm, 30mm, or 40mm) munitions, mortar, or artillery application. If a high rate production capability exists, the contractor is requested to provide a manufacturing readiness level assessment of their solution. 2.2 The contractor is requested to provide a Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimate and lead time to fabricate initial prototype reserve batteries per the munitions applications identified in RFI section 2.1 for initial quantity of 25, 50 and 100. 3. Applicable documents: N/A 4. Deliverables: The Contractor is requested to provide a written response to the Requirements stated in section 2 of this RFI that is limited to 10 total pages. Additionally, please list available existing contracts (GSA, etc.), or any additional information or data not listed above. Responses are requested to include: Business name and address; Name of company representative and their business title; Type of Business; Cage Code; 5.
