- CALL FOR ABSTRACTS FOR THE GROUND VEHICLE SURVIVABILITY SYMPOSIUM The Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) is sponsoring the 2016 Ground Vehicle Survivability Symposium (GSS), a three-day event dedicated to the survivability of Military Ground Vehicles (MGVs). GVSS will be a classified symposium held at Ft. Benning's Maneuver Battle Lab. White papers will be submitted and some will be selected for presentation. Open dialogue on new and emerging technologies will educate all attendees. "TARDEC is excited to be hosting the Ground Vehicle Survivability Symposium once again! The symposium provides a unique opportunity for researchers from government, industry, and academia to exchange ideas and discuss important advances in new and emerging survivability technologies. We are looking forward to the stimulating conversations that will spark innovative ideas and drive increased warfighter safety." - Jeff Koshko, Associate Director, Ground System Survivability Abstract Criteria: • Submission Deadline - July 1, 2016. • Extended abstracts should be a minimum of 500 words and not exceed two pages. • Describe the relevance and content of the proposed papers and how they support the mission of the U.S. Army. • All abstracts must be unclassified and releasable to the public. • The abstract must identify the expected classification and distribution statement of the presentation and paper. The Symposium will be conducted at the SECRET security level. Once selected, papers and presentations can be submitted at the UNCLASSIFIED, limited distribution, or up to the SECRET level. • Abstracts must be submitted after authors have obtained required local disclosure authorizations and security and OPSEC (Operations Security) approvals pertaining to professional conferences open to academia and industry. Abstracts will be submitted in one of the six areas covered by the technical sessions shown below. Additional details and forms are provided in the subsequent pages: • Passive and Reactive Protection Technologies for Kinetic Energy (KE)/Ballistic and Chemical Energy (CE) • Combat Vehicle Lightweighting: Design, Materials, and Manufacturing • Blast Protection Technologies • Vehicle Camouflage, Decoy and Deception • Hit Avoidance and Active Protection Technologies • Survivability/Novel Concepts Important Dates: Call for Abstracts May 10, 2016 Abstract Submission Deadline July 1, 2016 Abstract Acceptance Notification July 15, 2016 Draft Papers Due September 16, 2016 Final Papers Due October 7, 2016 Briefing/Presentation Deadline October 21, 2016 GVSS Technical Presentations November 16-17, 2016 The attachment "GVSS Abstract Submission Instructions" explains in detail each technology area and the abstract submission requirements/instructions.
