Description
PWS - DRAFT M odification of the Gun Feeding Unit 23/E (GFU-23/E). The GFU-23/E is a military unique item and there is no commercial item which can feed the rounds into 25mm guns. The scope of this modification includes a 25mm Turnaround Unit that makes use of parts from the GFU-23/E, 25mm Ammunition Loader as well as adding interfacing parts to create a 25mm Turnaround Unit. The Turnaround Unit allows a savings of manpower and materials in loading operations. Gun Feeding Unit 23/E (GFU-23/E), NSN 1730-01-363-3778QS, P/N 912E0001-100, Turnaround unit is to safely remove all rounds into a M548 container after a training mission. USAF will buy three (3) Turnaround modified units. This market survey is being conducted to identify potential sources that may possess the expertise, capabilities, and experience to meet the requirements for M odification of the Gun Feeding Unit 23/E (GFU-23/E), NSN 1730-01-363-3778QS, P/N 912E0001-100 Contractors/Institutions responding to this market research are placed on notice that participation in this survey may not ensure participation in future solicitations or contract awards. The government will not reimburse participants for any expenses associated with their participation in this survey. The government does not own or have access to the d ata for this item. In accordance with FAR 52.215-3: The government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this solicitation or to otherwise pay for the information solicited except as an allowable cost under other contracts as provided in subsection 31.205-18, bid and proposal costs, of the Federal Acquisition Regulation. Although "proposal" and "offeror" are used in this Request for Information, your response will be treated as information only. It shall not be used as a proposal. This solicitation is issued for the purpose of market research. INSTRUCTIONS: Below is a document containing a description of the 25MM Gun Feeding Unit, GFU-23/E and a Contractor Capability Survey, which allows you to provide your company's capability. If, after reviewing these documents, you desire to participate in the market research, you should provide documentation that supports your company's capability in meeting these requirements. Failure to provide documentation may result in the government being unable to adequately assess your capabilities. If you lack sufficient experience in a particular area, please provide details explaining how you would overcome the lack of experience/capabilities in order to perform that portion of the requirement (i.e., teaming, subcontracting, etc.) Both large and small businesses are encouraged to participate in this Market Research. Joint ventures or teaming arrangements are encouraged. Questions relative to this market survey should be addressed to Sharon Grey, sharon.grey.2@us.af.mil REQUIREMENTS DESCRIPTION Gun Feed Unit, GFU-23/E PURPOSE/DESCRIPTION The government is conducting market research to identify potential sources that possess the expertise, capabilities, and experience to provide complete drawings with data rights for the Munitions Assembly Conveyor Gun Feeding Unit 23/E (GFU-23/E), NSN 1730-01-363-3778QS, P/N 912E0001-100, Technical Order, T.O. 35D30-4-17-1 The Objective(s): To modify the Gun Feeding Unit 23/E (GFU-23/E), NSN 1730-01-363-3778QS, P/N 912E0001-100, to include a 25mm Turnaround unit. The goal of adding this Turnaround unit is to safely remove all rounds into a M548 container after a training mission. USAF will buy three (3) modified GFU-23/E with Turnaround units. The Benefit to United States Air Force (USAF): If the rounds have not been fired during the mission, then the rounds cannot be cycled through the gun until spent. The added turnaround mechanism will allow removal by safe hands placement into a M548 container, reloading the gun system (magazine) without firing and will cut the hours required to unload or reload. The aircraft will not have to spend any extra hours flying out in getting rid of any unfired rounds. The Background: 25mm Gatling gun, GAU-12/U, is a five barreled automatic cannon chambered in 25x137mm. This weapon is flexible mounted on a trainable gun mount on the AC-130U. Before the training mission is over, the USAF AC-130U crew members have to fire all rounds or disassemble the 25mm Gatling gun in order to remove the unfired rounds. The operation to empty the rounds is potentially unsafe and costly to USAF in terms of money and man-hours. The Government does not own the re-procurable drawings or data rights to the GFU-23/E.
