Description
Title: Adaptive Sailing Program Location: Boston Harbor Purpose: To provide disabled Veterans the opportunity to learn to sail with adaptive sailing equipment and a certified Sailing Instructor for 20 participates over the course of 6-8 week period. Description: Located on the waterfront in East Boston, Massachusetts, we are looking for a community sailing center dedicated to providing affordable recreational, educational and personal growth opportunities for people of all ages and abilities in Boston Harbor. The program must allow up to twenty disabled Veterans over the course of a 6-8 week period the opportunity to learn sailing using adaptive sailing equipment under the guidance of a Certified Sailing Instructor on Boston Harbor. Program Dates: To include one event date and an additional seven consecutive weeks for on-going programming. "On-going program- The program will be scheduled to run for a eight week period negotiated between the vendor and Bedford VA Adaptive Sports staff based on the need to vary the schedule due to weather restrictions. "Program will run one day per week around patient and provider schedules. Program Times: The one-time event and on-going program days will all be 3 hours in length. # of Boats required per session: 5 Boats Estimated number of participants: A maximum of twenty participants and five staff may be served during any of the above mentioned events. Description of Program: "On-going program- Veterans will participate in 6-8 weeks of programming, progressing them through a "Learn to Sail" curriculum. Each session will be led by a qualified US Sailing instructor and additional support staff will be on-board vessels to work through "on the water" skills with veterans. Up to one VA staff member may accompany each vessel but is not required. PATIENT SAFETY: All sailboats, lifejackets, adaptive seating, and transfer assistance will be provided by contractor.
