- Description
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), US Meat Animal Research Center, Clay Center, NE, intends to negotiate on a sole source basis to Neogen- Geneseek located in Lincoln, NE that will provide the genotypes for approximately 230,000 markers on 950 USMARC animals. The GGP-F250K array offered by Neogen-GeneSeek represents a new set of Bovine markers of which almost 200,000 are classified as functional variant polymorphisms. These functional variants are selected because, through various procedures, they have been implicated as causing a change in the protein structure of a specific gene or are thought to cause changes in the regulation of a gene. An additional 34,000 markers are also placed on the array to assist with imputation to other assays (which have been genotyped on several USMARC animals). Neogen-GeneSeek is the only source of these functional variant makers in a high-throughput (array) form. NeoGen-Geneseek is the only vender of the GGP-F250K array. These genotypes can only be obtained through the use of this array or through sequencing as of now and sequencing would be much more expensive. Neogen-GeneSeek has constructed this array in collaboration with the University of Missouri with some content from the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center. There is no other source for high-throughput genotyping of these markers. These markers are unique in that they primarily reflect markers know to cause changes to proteins or to the regulation of proteins. While these markers are not patented, there is no other method to obtain these genotypes at this cost. This is a notice of intent and is not a request for competitive quotations or proposals. No solicitation is available. Firms that believe they can provide this service are encouraged to identify themselves and provide a substantive statement with descriptive literature and any other supporting information to the Contracting Officer within 10 days of publication of this notice. All information received within 10 days of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government to determine if the alternative equipment meets the Government's requirements and is capable of performing the intended task(s). All responses must be in writing and may be faxed to the attention of Donita Furman, fax 402-762-4145, or email at donita.furman@ars.usda.gov. Questions concerning this acquisition must be directed to Donita Furman, email donita.furman@ars.usda.gov.
