- Description
- FDA-16-SOL-1170572 The Food and Drug Administration's Winchester Engineering and Analytical Center (WEAC) is responsible for the development and validation of methods to evaluate the detection of microbial pathogens in food and environmental areas. Current methods to identify bacterial contamination can take several days to obtain a result. Recently a phage-based assay for the detection of Listeria species in environmental conditions was certified by the AOAC Research Institute. The incorporation of a genetically modified phage has been shown to increase the signal by several orders of magnitude. The advantage of a rapid detection system is it does not require pre-enrichment and can potentially detect one colony forming unit within several hours. The incorporation of this type of detection system would greatly improve the ability of a food manufacturer to evaluate environmental conditions. Please see attached solicitation.
