Description
Requires an exhaust flowmeter system to perform mission critical projects. The exhaust flowmeter is used to measure accurate exhaust flowrate for a wide range of high exhaust gas temperatures and pressures which are critical for proper sizing of a turbocharger in an engine. The Army Research Laboratory Vehicle Technology Directorate (ARL-VTD) requires an exhaust flowmeter system to perform mission critical projects. The exhaust flowmeter is used to measure accurate exhaust flowrate for a wide range of high exhaust gas temperatures and pressures which are critical for proper sizing of a turbocharger in an engine. The flowmeter should be able to measure exhaust flowrates with a high accuracy, even though the pressure and temperature are dramatically varied during the operation. To perform the mission critical projects, the ARL-VTD requires a raw exhaust gas flowmeter with the following requirements: (1) a flow range of 15 to 242 grams/second g/s, (2) a flow turndown ratio of  35:1, (3) maximum exhaust gas temperature of  750Celsius, (4) pressure range at the measurement location of 29.6 to 101.3 kilopascals (kPa) (absolute), (5) an exhaust pipe size of 5 inches (sized for the flowrate requirement), (6) an accuracy of  +/- 1.5% of reading, (7) maximum pressure drop of  10 kPa, (8) response time of  2 milliseconds (ms), (9) pressure and temperature compensation capability, (10) humidity, oxygen, and fuel hydrogen-to-carbon ratio input capabilities for accurate flowrate measurement for various fuel properties, (11) analog output signal to interface with the altitude chamber interface cabinet, and(12) 120 volts alternating current (VAC) power supply.
