- Description
- The Tribology and Mechanical Testing System we intend to purchase must have the following specifications in order for us to successfully realize our research requirements: 1.1 System must provide closed loop servo controlled Z-axis. Explanation: Conventional tribology and mechanical test systems use dead weights to apply the normal force. Being able to directly control and maintain the loading profile allows us to measure true and continuous friction properties as well as explore and simulate better real-world conditions and material characterization. 1.2 The system must provide in-situ wear-depth monitoring down to 0.5µm resolution. 1.3 System must include interchangeable and tool-less changeover rotary, reciprocating, block-on-ring, and linear drives (Future upgrade ok for additional drives) 1.4 System must include removable and quick connect temperature and humidity chambers from -25C to 1000C and 5% - 90% range respectively as well as force sensors ranging from 1mN to 2kN (Future upgrade ok for environmental chambers and sensors) 1.5 The system must include interchangeable force sensors ranging from 1mN to 2kN (Future upgrade ok) 1.6 The system must include capability to auto configure installed hardware without manual intervention 1.7 System must include the capability to run from any PC with only a single USB connection between PC and main system. 1.8 System must include capability to upgrade and add drives, environmental chambers, and measurement sensors at any time during the life of the system. 1.9 The system must include analog Force Sensor overload protection. 1.10 The system must include additional USB connection for increased flexibility and integration of advanced measurement modules. 1.11 System must include additional BNC connections for custom analog sensor integration 1.12 The system must include an expandable plug-and-play analog sensors configuration 1.13 The system must have the ability to introduce multiple loading profiles to their test environment. 1.14 The system must include a built-in temperature controller. 1.15 The system must include standard test program library 1.16 The system must include block modeled script creation 1.17 The system must include novice and advanced user software operating modes 1.18 The system must include built-in software for force sensor calibration 1.19 The system must include the capability for if/then programming functionality 1.20 The system must run on any PC 1.21 The tribology test machine shall perform tests of a block on a ring configuration equal to tests performed to ASTM test G77-91
