Description
Sources Sought Ion Injection System Upgrade Specs This is a REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY for market research purposes. We have a requirement for an Ion Injection System upgrade. The specifications are attached to this post as well as copied below: Ion Injection System Upgrade This upgrade is to more efficiently transport ions from the multi-ion source region of the AFRL/RVB selected ion flow tube to the flow tube itself. It is meant to replace the current quadrupole/lens/Venturi inlet with a system designed to efficiently transport ions from the high vacuum region of the quadrupole mass selector to the flow tube which operates at about one 1 Torr. The system shall be inserted between the current rectilinear quadrupole and the ion flow tube (drawings will be provided as needed). It should include all parts for efficient ion transport. Included should be an ion guide with supplemental electrodes to pull the ions downstream against the gas flow. The Venturi region between the ion source and flow tube will be replaced with a drift-like cell to further overcome the pressure gradient. The existing lens at the Venturi inlet will also be replaced with a more efficient energy transport system. The new parts would operate at an elevated pressure. The system should be designed to reduce ion losses by a factor of 10 or more. 1) Overall system - a. The Ion injection system upgrade must be consistent with AFRL existing technology in our selected ion flow tube; i.e. it should mate to the current apparatus without redesign. The vacuum system should be made of stainless steel or aluminum with UHV compatible components, where appropriate. b. A custom vacuum chamber to allow for another stage of differential pumping will be supplied. i. Provides a ISO 160 pumping port. ii. Will have a conductance limiting orifice on the upstream end. iii. Flanges will mate to existing apparatus (drawings provided upon request). c. A turbomolecular pump capable of operating at inlet pressures up to 8 milliTorr should be supplied, such as an Edwards nEXT400D-HQ Hybrid Bearing Compound Turbomolecular Pump (Edwards PN B83200310), with ISO-160 Inlet Port and coarse inlet screen, KF25 Outlet Port, wiring kit, controller, and vent valve. The turbopump controller shall be included. It should have an ISO 160 Flange. d. An RF ion guide capable of operating above a milliTorr should be provided. e. Field shaping electrodes should be added to the front portion of the RF ion guide to push the ions upstream towards the flow tube entrance. f. A dual RF power supply with external hi Q heads will be provided. The power supply controller should be rack mountable. g. The two RF power supplies should be self-oscillating with each having a single pair of outputs 180 degrees out of phase. One frequency will be matched to RF rods supplied and the other to the current rectilinear rods. h. New Venturi inlet design shall provide for annular flow of helium around the conductance limiting ion entrance port to establish vacuum by the Venturi effect. New Venturi inlet design shall incorporates electrostatic focusing optics to focus ions into Venturi inlet. i. Venturi inlet shall be compatible with existing SIFT injection flange. j. Optics Power Supply with Ten Outputs and Embedded Digital Control. The range of the power supplies should be from -400 V to +400 V. It should be rack mountable and have a vacuum interlock safety feature. k. Electrical feedthoughs and wiring for the ion guide and lenses should be provided. l. An existing backing pump for the turbo shall be used. m. All necessary cables will be supplied n. Shipping and handling will be included. o. Warranty of at least one year including parts and labor.
