- The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) seeks information on vendors that are capable of providing a Near Infrared (NIR) microscope objective meeting the specifications below. The purpose of this notice is to identify organizations capable of meeting this requirement. This announcement is not a Request for Proposals or Quotes (RFP/RFQ) and does not commit the Government to award a contract now or in the future. The information contained in this notice is DRAFT only and as such, is subject to change prior to issuance of a solicitation. No solicitation is available at this time. After results of this market research are obtained and analyzed, NIST may conduct a competitive or non-competitive procurement and subsequently award a contract. NIST is aware of one vendor, that offers an item meeting this requirement, and will use the results of this sources sought notice to determine whether to proceed on a sole source basis or competitively depending on whether other commercial vendors could potentially meet this requirement. NIST is seeking responses from all responsible vendors, including large and small businesses. This requirement is assigned a NAICS code of 333314 (Optical Instrument and Lens Manufacturing) with a small business size standard of 500 employees. Interested business organizations that believe they may be capable of meeting NIST's desired specifications detailed below should provide a capability statement demonstrating the ability of the vendor to meet all of NIST's requirements. Vendors may provide supplemental information within this document or as an attachment at their discretion. NIST is seeking one (1) NIR microscope objective which meets the following minimum technical requirements: The NIR microscope objective must: • Be infinity corrected; • Have numerical aperture of 1.2 or greater; • Have a working distance of 0.28 mm or greater; • Have a collar for compensating aberration from coverslips; • Have a magnification value of 60X or less; • Have light transmission of greater than or equal to 60% in the wavelength range (800 nm to 1550 nm); • Be fully corrected for both axial and spherical chromatic aberration for focal position over the wavelength range (800 nm to 1550 nm); • Be compatible with the Olympus IX71 microscope body; and • Be compatible to the Yanus IV digital scan head.
