- In accordance with the information provided under Amendment No. 0001, Amendment No. 0002 is hereby issued to provide all interested parties with a list of the questions posed to the NPS during the pre-bid meeting held on Wednesday July 20 2016 and the answers to those questions. Q1. Should we include new 1x3 rake boards on all dormers and gable end? A1. Based on B.1.1., the trim facia board is required as an attachment point for the new roof's drip edge. Contractors should include new 1 x 3 trim or rake boards on all dormers and gable ends where missing or damaged beyond reuse, sound undamaged sections of existing trim suitable for inclusion in the new work may remain. New trim boards are to be primed on all sides including end grain primed. New specified drip edge is to be attached to this trim. Q2. Should we include removal of half round gutters and installation of new ones as well as downspouts? A2. Existing half round gutters will be removed prior to the start of the work by Valley Forge NHP staff. New gutters and rain leaders are not part of the work and are not required. Q3. What about new fascia boards? And, if so, what size? A3. Based on B.1.1, new 1 x 3 facia trim boards is required on the eaves where missing or damaged beyond reuse, sound undamaged sections of existing trim suitable for inclusion in the new work may remain. This trim is required as an attachment point for new drip edge specified in the SOW. New trim boards are to be primed on all sides including end grain primed. Attach with 2 nails at each rafter end and at edge of roof deck with 1 nail at 18" o.c. Q4. What about at minimum one coat priming all tounge and groove exposed soffit wood? As well as priming of rake and fascia boards if installed? A4. T & G sheathing is required to be primed on all sides including end grain primed according to B.8.6.4.b. of the SOW. New trim boards are to be primed, see answers to questions 1 & 3. Q5. Valley - Open copper or closed valley? A5. Valleys are to be open valleys all flashing and roof metal is to be copper as specified. Q6. Edge metal Aluminum or copper? A6. All flashing and roof metal to be copper as specified. Q7. What is the required bid bond amount? A7. The bid bond, which is required with your response, should be equal to 20% of your quote. The following 4 points are included to provide some general observations from the Project Manager: 1. Contractors shall include the replacement of one valley joist or beam in their bid. The valley joist shall be removed in it's entirety and replaced with similarly sized material, nominally a 2 x 8 approximately 9' in length, Deteriorated rafters framing into the valley joist that no longer perform the function or support the loads for which they were intended shall be replaced if less than or equal to 4' - 0" in length and shall be reinforced with new scabs if over 4' - 0". Use galvanized joist hangers as required to connect existing and new joist to the new valley joist or beam. 2 There are currently two types or profiles of T & G roof decking installed at various locations on the structures eave overhang. These are a "V" groove and a beaded board. One of these profiles will be selected to be used in the repair under SOW paragraph B.1.3.b. 3. The area of existing T & G roof decking to be replaced with exterior grade plywood according to SOW paragraph B.1.3.a. is increased from 600 s.f. to 700 s.f. total. The area of T & G roof decking to be replaced with new matching T & G roof decking according to SOW paragraph B.1.3.b. is unchanged. 4. The number of roof joist to be repaired according to SOW paragraph B.1.3.c is hereby increased from 10 rafters to 14 rafters total. The time and date for receipt of bids remains as NLT 2PM local time on Friday July, 29, 2016.
