- Description
- The Global Leadership Initiative (GLI) is one of four (4) FAA Strategic Initiatives and is designed to transform the manner in which the FAA plans for and executes international engagement. The FAA position as a world leader in aviation safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability requires active support and engagement with international counterparts, global organizations and industry. With shrinking discretionary budgets, the FAA GLI looks to make data-informed decisions about FAA international resource allocation and engagement to maximize the return on its investment and ensure the global aviation system is as safe, efficient and secure as the National Airspace System (NAS) for traveling Americans. The Office of International Affairs (API), located in the Office of Policy, International Affairs, and Environment (APL), is the agency lead for managing all aspects of the Global Leadership Initiative (GLI) even though GLI is an agency initiative representing all FAA Lines of Business (LOBs) and Staff Offices (SOs). The GLI governance structure consists of the International Advisory Board (IAB), International Steering Committee (ISC) and several supporting Task Forces that all are comprised of volunteer members from each FAA LOB/SOs international issues and initiatives can be collaboratively discussed and decisions can take into account all perspectives of the FAA (air traffic, safety, environment, etc.). Although the GLI has active participation from staff and executives in several FAA LOBs/SOs, FAA lacks dedicated full-time federal staff to manage all GLI programs and initiatives. As such, additional technical and program management support is required to ensure successful, timely and coordinated execution of GLI strategic initiatives and activities.
