Description

Notice of Intent to Sole Source. This is a new requirement for the purchase of a 1 Liter Fermentation Vessel to be used exclusively in the existing Eppendorf BioFlo301 Biological Fermentation Control unit located in the USAMRIID laboratory. Equipment and supplies include a 1 Liter stainless and glass vessel, 1 Rushton impeller kit, all adaptors, tri-port addition kit, pH sensor and dissolved oxygen probe. This 1 Liter Fermentation Vessel is used to optimize fermentation conditions on a smaller scale that the existing 14 Liter vessel that is part of the existing equipment. The smaller scale allows for a more rapid, cost-efficient optimization of the fermentation conditions needed to maximize yield of transgenic protein antigens used as vaccine and therapeutic products. The small scale protocols can then be applied to the larger fermentation vessels in preparation for large scale production runs of pilot lots of transgenic microbial cell mass.
