Objective: To find sources that are qualified to meet the supplies/services as listed in section 11B. Note that the specific requirements in section C are subject to change prior to the release of any solicitation. B. Salient Characteristics The contractor shall provide qty one (1) polishing system that meets the following salient characteristics: I. Qty one (1) Polisher with the following characteristics: a. Fully automatic polishing with variable speed, pressure, and time control. i. Operating pressure of 85 pounds (lbs.) or greater. ii. Operating platen rotation speed of 400 rotations per minute (RPM) or greater. b. 115 volt (V) power compatible. II. Qty one (1) power head a. Operating head speed of 150 RPM or greater b. Individual pressure to each specimen in sample holder of 22 lbs. or greater in 1 lb. increments III. Qty one (1) Platen with the following characteristics: a. Minimum diameter of 12 inches. b. Magnetic, for use with magnetic grinding and polishing pads. IV. Qty one (1) Sample Holder with the following characteristics: a. Individual pressure sample preparation setting. i. Minimum of qty six (6) sample slots in individual pressure sample holder. 1. 1.25 inch diameter ii. Minimum individual sample pressure of at least 1 lb. b. Sample holder rotation both complementary and contrary to platen rotation. c. Compatible with sample sizes of 1.0-2.0 inches in diameter. V. Qty one (1) automatic fluid dispenser with the following characteristics: a. Integrated with timed polishing system for fully automatic operation. b. Capacity for at least qty five (5) different polishing slurries at a time. c. For use with both: diamond polishing slurries and colloidal silica/alumina polishing slurries. d.
