- Description
- The USGS has a requirement for a firm-fixed price purchase order to the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS), a not-for-profit, inclusive organization dedicated to fostering the success of Chicano/Hispanic and Native American scientists, from college students to professionals, in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in STEM. This will be for booth space, registrations, digital ads, tables, and support for the 2016 SANCAS Conference in Long Beach California. Period of Performance will be as follows: 10/13/2016 through 10/15/2016 The USGS is aware of no other source that can provide the above. Therefore, it intends to make an award to SACNAS unless it is contacted by any who believes they have obtained similar technical expertise and can provide the same service. Vendors are invited to contact the Contracting Officer, Andres Castro, via email at acastro@usgs.gov no later than 2:00 PM EDT, Tuesday, September 6, 2016 with an affirmative answer. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) considers employee signatures to be Personal Protected Information, and therefore all employee signatures have been redacted. By posting this document, the Contracting Officer attests all appropriate signatures have been obtained. This is the only ¿science focused ¿ STEM ¿ event of this nature that targets two USGS underrepresented groups - Hispanic and Native American scientific educational students/communities at one time and place. In recent years, SACNAS has also expanded its conference attendance to multiple students from all other diverse communities. SACNAS partners with Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES), and American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) for their events. This increases the target audience(s) in a single time and place. This expands this event to a great cost savings for the USGS to meet our Diversity commitments to target specific partnerships to assist in the advancement of our Diversity and Outreach goals and legal obligations. There are no other organizations hosting this focused event; this is a proprietary source. The SACNAS National Conference is the largest conference, organized by a national nonprofit organization of individuals and organizations interested in quality science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research, teaching, and leadership, dedicated to the advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in science. It attracts approximately 5000 primarily Hispanic and Native American STEM undergraduate, graduate, post doc students and their distinguished scientist mentors. In attendance are also approximately 400 STEM organizations primarily composed of many USGS science coalition partners in both science research and STEM education. This conference targets multiple different requirements and goals within all of the missions/goals of the USGS regarding the diverse outreach of science to a multitude of communities. SACNAS provides that ¿exclusively science (STEM) ¿ focused audience. It is an opportunity for USGS to mark its interest and participation in a community that gives us an opportunity to partner with Hispanic (and American Indian) schools/students that range from undergraduate to post doctorate for the coming years. The conference has continuous grow of participation of many other diverse communities to program. This will go a long way to meet the Diversity obligations for many individuals and programs. SACNAS is recognized as a premier minority science organization/society of scientists dedicated to advancing Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in science. Their mission is to foster the success of Hispanic/Chicano and Native American scientists ¿from college students to professionals ¿to attain advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in science. Their goals are to increase the number of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans with advanced degrees in science and the motivation to be leaders; to increase the number of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in science research, leadership, and teaching careers at all levels; and to increase governmental commitment to advancing Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in science resulting in increased resources, elimination of barriers, and greater equity. SACNAS is the only venue that fulfills all the needed USGS mission and diversity requirements. Proprietary Source.
