Description
The purpose of Amendment 0001 is the following: 1. Extend the response date from 9 Sep 2016 to 13 Sep 2016. 2. Answer the following questions received from prospective offerors: Q: We plan to mold this part. As such there will be some flash, ( very thin pieces of rubber, usually a few thousandths thick and extend from the ID and OD of the gasket) about.030". It will be on the top or bottom of the gasket but probably not both. Is this flash going to be objectionable? Note:.030" is the length not thickness. This flash can typically be pulled of easily. Do we need to trim each part individually? A: Flash on the gasket outer diameter shouldn't be a problem with fitment, but flash on the inner diameter may interfere with the base/body assembly. FYI, this part has been stamped out historically out of sheet stock and not formed in a mold. Q: Is there a material callout on for the material from which this part should be made from besides what is listed on the drawing, (i.e., any ASTM D2000) call out requirements? Drawing only lists Neoprene 70A. A: Materiel is a 70 A durometer neoprene rubber. The ASTM provided lists materiel properties which our SME has delineated below: MATERIAL: NEOPRENE RUBBER BLACK, 70A, ASTM D2000 1BC 710. 1##### Grade 1 = no additional suffix requirements #B#### Class (testing in oil at 100C) ##C### Class(120% max swell) ###7## Durometer 70 ####10 Tensile strength. M710 would be 70 duro, 10Mpa. The lack of an M implies an older non-metric ASTM, so I assume 1000psi Q: Is there a compression set requirement on the gasket itself? During bulk shipping units can take some compression set. Is there any special shipping requirements to prevent compression set, if not, is there a limit? A: We are not aware of any issues historically regarding stacking or sticking and have not stipulated any rigid packing requirements. The thrust of this gasket is to provide a barrier between metals, and keep moisture out at ambient pressures during long term storage, not necessarily a strict high performance gasket for something in harsh environment. Q: We'll be bulk packing these gaskets. From time to time, it's possible that a number of these will get piled one on top of the other when they're put into the box. If these gaskets stick together a bit and need to be pulled apart, is that a problem? What are the shipping requirements? A: We are not aware of any issues historically regarding stacking or sticking and have not stipulated any rigid packing requirements. The thrust of this gasket is to provide a barrier between metals, and keep moisture out at ambient pressures during long term storage, not necessarily a strict high performance gasket for something in harsh environment. Q: There is a discrepancy on this print that I was hoping you could help me clarify. Note #2 says the material is Neoprene, but in the "Suggested sources of supply" table it lists N674-70, which is a specific ParkerNitrile compound. Should we be quoting Neoprene or Nitrile? A: Not sure where the N674-70, specific ParkerNitrile compound got referenced in said supply table. Some of the IPT members hypothesized that this may have gotten referenced in error from other O-rings/gaskets being procured? Not sure, but anyway the materiel is a Neoprene Rubber with a suggested source that we qualified here at ARDEC, was furnished to us by the vendor suggested on the drawing and has been procured by MCAAP in the past for storage of our metal parts. Given the 2013 timeframe, it was a somewhat difficult to retrace our steps, but feel confident the drawing is correct and materiel callouts as well.
