- Description
- NOAA Coronagraph Deployment RFI NOAA Compact Coronagraph Accommodation RFI At the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) we are committed to continuing the delivery of observations critical to the nation's space weather forecasting system. These observations include imagery of solar coronal mass ejections (CMEs), which are crucial for 1-3 day forecasts of geomagnetic storms. NOAA's long term plans are to provide continuity of CME imagery with the Space Weather Follow-On (SWFO) Program in the 2022-2032 timeframe. However, as the systems NOAA currently depends on to acquire CME imagery are well past their design life, there is a possibility of a gap in this critical data prior to the implementation of the SWFO program. The Naval Research Laboratory, in coordination with NOAA, has designed a Compact Coronagraph (CCOR) instrument specifically to meet NOAAs CME imagery requirements. NESDIS is exploring options to prevent or mitigate the gap in CME imagery utilizing a near term deployment of a CCOR technology demonstration unit. NESDIS issued a Request For Information (RFI) to support a CME imagery gap mitigation. The RFI solicits information on possible near term accommodation options for operational deployment of the CCOR instrument. Please see the attachment for further details.
