- NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD A SOLE SOURCE CONTRACT SOLICITATION NUMBER: NB686060-16-04428 CONTACT POINT: ARON KRISCHEL, Contract Specialist 303-497-3032 BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance images are produced by the use of magnetic field gradients applied at specific times and durations. To produce these gradients, a set of power amplifiers are used to pulse these gradient fields. These power amplifiers are a vital part of the overall system and without them, the MRI is non-functional. The system was installed in October 2012 and was the last generation of the console Agilent developed before discontinuing the systems. PURPOSE: NIST currently owns and operates an Agilent 7T/310 preclinical DD2 MRI console and requires a replacement gradient power system. The current gradient power amplifier is no longer serviceable from the original manufacturer and NIST requires an amplifier system that is serviceable now and in the future. DELIVERABLES: 1 MRI Gradient Power Amplifier system (X, Y, Z gradients) TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: The contractor shall provide the following: 1.A gradient power amplifier system with a minimum power output of 750 volts and 400 amps DC. 2.The system shall interface with the Agilent DD2 pre-clinical MRI system currently used at NIST (via Agilent's GAIF-unit). 3.The Gradient power amplifiers shall be matched to the gradient coil currently used at NIST (310mm OD, 205mm ID, Agilent) 4.NIST personnel will be trained on matching gradient coils to the gradient power amplifier system such that NIST personnel can add future gradients to the gradient power amplifier system. 5.Provided gradient power amplifier should include a warranty of at least 12 months for the system. *******************SOLE SOURCE JUSTIFICATION************************ Agilent MRI systems were developed with limited options for gradient amplifiers. The current NIST MRI system uses a Copley 266 and IECO (400A/750V) gradient amplifier. Agilent has discontinuned manufacturing pre-clinical MRI systems and there is no way to go back to Agilent for a new gradient system. IECO is the only known manufacturer of pre-clinical MRI gradient amplifiers known to work with Agilent MRI systems. ********************************************************************
