Description
Synopsis for Falex F430 Ellipsometers The contractor shall supply the Army Petroleum Laboratory with 2 Falex 430 Ellipsometric Apparatuses that meet the following specifications: The Ellipsometric Apparatus shall perform the rating of heater tube deposits as specified in ASTM D3241- Standard Test Method for Thermal Oxidation Stability of Aviation Turbine Fuels and ASTM D1655 Standard Specification for Aviation Turbine Fuels. This test method measures the high temperature stability of gas turbine fuels in an instrument that subjects the fuel to conditions that can be related to those occurring in a gas turbine engine fuel system. The fuel is pumped at a fixed flow rate through a heater, after which it enters a precision stainless steel filter where fuel degradation products may become trapped. The apparatus uses approximately 450 mL of fuel during a 2.5-h test. The ellipsometric apparatus measures the thickness of deposits on an aluminum heater tube which correlates to fuel degradation. The Ellipsometric Apparatus shall have the following capabilities: a. Completely enclosed laser light source with an optical detection system that measures film thickness on all ASTM D3241 heater tubes. b. Operate on 110 or 220 volt, 60 Hz power supply. c. Option to select express, detailed, or custom measurement programs. d. Fully automatic testing process and deposit depth calculation. e. Automatic heater tube serial number detection. f. Measurable deposit depth of 0-330 nanometers (nm). g. Fast analysis of 12-16 minutes. h. Must meet referee requirement as per ASTM D1655, Table 1, Note N.
