- IFB_DACA65-B-17-01 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is offering for sale four (4) items of timber on approximately 672 acres total located within Fort Drum, Jefferson County, NY of which approximately the following volumes to be harvested: The sale is per unit and harvested timber will be sold by WEIGHT & Fort Drum sliding scale for sawlogs. *ITEM 1 (TA 3A)- Harvest Dates 01 November 2016 - 15 April 2017 Harvest area split into 2 Units: • Unit 1 (110 acres): Trees to be harvested are marked with BLUE paint. • Unit 2 (151 acres): Trees to be harvested are not designated with paint. Foresters will work with the contractor to establish a residual tree spacing of fifty (50) feet. Leave trees will consist of dominant and co-dominant trees. If no trees greater than eight inches (8") diameter at breast height (DBH) are present to serve as a leave tree, the contractor may leave a small cluster of saplings/shrubs instead. • Contractor must cut all woody vegetation (except for leave trees) down to one inch (1") DBH. • Landing size and location will be designated by forester • A permitted stream crossing will be required for this sale. Fort Drum Natural Resources will secure the stream crossing permit from NYS DEC. Fort Drum will provide the portable skidder bridge required for this stream crossing. *ITEM 2 (TA 7B & 9A)-- Harvest Dates 01 November 2016 - 15 April 2017 Harvest area split into 3 Units: • Unit 1 (125 acres): Trees to be cut and removed are marked with BLUE paint. • Unit 2 and 3 (63 acres total): Trees to be harvested are marked with BLUE paint. In addition, the contractor will be required to remove all hardwood trees from the Units down to one inch (1") DBH. Any softwood (pine) regeneration will not be cut and extra care shall be taken to minimize damage to advanced pine regeneration. • Two (2) landings locations are required. • Protected cultural resources sites are identified. *ITEM 3 (TA 8B)-- *Possible Metal Contamination* in this harvest area. Harvest Dates 01 November 2016 - 15 April 2017 Harvest area split into 3 Units: • Unit 1 (146 acres): Leave trees are marked with ORANGE paint. All other woody stems not marked are to be cut and removed. • Unit 2 and 3 (63 acres total): Trees to be harvested are marked with BLUE paint. • Two (2) landings locations are required. • One (1) protected cultural resources site is identified, no trees will be removed from this site. *ITEM 4 (Cantonment)-- Harvest Dates 01 November 2016 - 31 March 2017-14 Acres • Tree removal for construction. • Remove all woody stems in flagged boundaries. • Multiple landings may be required. * Whole-tree harvesting is required for the above items The above items are available for inspection by appointment ONLY until October 15, 2016 due to military training thereafter.
