Sources Sought Sources Sought Synopsis (1) Action Code: SOURCES SOUGHT This is a Sources Sought Notice only. This is not a request for proposal, but a survey to locate potential sources. This Sources Sought does not constitute an Invitation for Bids, Request for Proposals, or a Request for Quotations, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government to issue an order or otherwise pay for the information solicited, nor is it a guarantee of a forthcoming solicitation or contract. It is for market research purposes only. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. The purpose of this Sources Sought Notice is to gain knowledge of interest, capabilities, and qualifications of various members of industry, to include the Small Business Community: Small Business, Section 8(a), Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUB-Zone), Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB), and Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB). The Government must ensure there is adequate competition among the potential pool of responsible contractors. Objective: To find sources that are qualified to meet the supplies/services as listed in section 11B. Note that the specific requirements in section C are subject to change prior to the release of any solicitation. B. Laboratory BenchTop Hot Press Furance Aberdeen Proving Grounds (APG) Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Ceramics and Transparent Materials Branch (CTMB) requires the procurement of a laboratory scale bench top hot press furnace with the minimum requirements that shall be provided: • At least 2500°C maximum temperature • At least 2300°C normal operating temperature • All graphite heating zone (graphite heating elements and graphite insulation) • Greater than or equal to 25°C/minute furnace ramp up and down • Usable work zone to be at least 3" diameter x 4" height (maximum die dimensions) • Less than or equal to 50°C maximum exterior chamber temperature • 15 ton (30,000 lbs.) automated press with a 200 lb. or less minimum set point • Turbo vacuum with an ultimate vacuum equal to or lower than 5.0 X10-6 Torr in a dry chamber without sample at room temperature • Gas purification (Gettering furnace with oxygen analyzer) capable of purifying Argon and Nitrogen with titanium or iron getter charge (respectively) • Automatic retractable thermocouple above 1000°C rated for high vacuum (≥ 10-5 Torr) and Argon atmosphere • Optical pyrometer for >1000°C • Electronic data display and acquisition of ram position and load indicator with touch screen display • Ram position indicator capable of ram displacement measurements with a repeatability of 0.000025" or better • Mass spectrometer (RGA) with high pressure analyzer for chemical species analysis of evolved gases during furnace operation with data acquisition and associated software for mass versus time • Power supply of 240 VAC, 1 PH, 60 Hz • Delivery within 6 months (26 weeks) • On-site (ARL APG) unpacking, set up and training • Standard Spare parts kit to include: o Graphite heating element o graphite insulation kit o graphite rods and pyrolytic spacers o extra thermal couples o O-rings, fuses o titanium getter charge o Iron gettering charge with regeneration kit.
